What happens when I call The Tui Centre?

We will ask you for a few contact details and some questions about you and your situation and if you know what you want to achieve out of counselling.

We will then make an appointment for you with the appropriate counsellor in your area. We will also send you a reminder text closer to the time. Its as simple as that. If you require Skype please contact us, and we will arrange an appointment time with our Skype counsellor who will help you set up your session.

what's the difference between a counsellor and psychotherapist?

Some people might say there is no difference and others may say there is a big difference.  The way I look at it is:

• Counsellors help you to deal with issues that keep interfering with your life today. They won’t tell you what to do, but they will help you to work things out for yourself, and what you can do differently in the future.  Counsellors help you make change happen and are very skilled at asking the right questions for you to find the answers within yourself.

• Psychotherapists are trained to deal with deeper issues and often work with people diagnosed with mental illness.  They have specialist knowledge and experience in helping clients to work through difficult or painful life experiences. Both counsellors and psychotherapists  help clients make meaning in their lives and relationships. Counselling and psychotherapy teaches us to have a more successful relationship with ourselves and with others.

do the counsellors or psychotherapist answer to a professional Organisation?

Yes! Our Counsellors, therapists and psychologists are professionally qualified and adhere to the Codes of Ethics of relevant professional organisation's, such as NZAC, NZAP, NZACC.
